REGULATION 14th EUROPEAN YOUTH CHOIRS FESTIVAL LECCO, 30 June - 5 July 2020

The application form and the documents necessary to register for the Zelioli Festival must be sent WITHIN AND NOT LATER THAN 15 DECEMBER 2019 via:

By sending the application form, the Choir declares full acceptance of the terms and conditions of these Regulations.

The application must be accompanied by the following documents and audio materials:

1. Recording, in MP3, WAV format, or with Video files, of at least 4 songs recently recorded by the choir (preferably in video form) and posted on Youtube. The PDF files of the scores of the recorded pieces must also be attached to the application.
2. Updated curriculum vitae of the choir and the director (max. 1000 characters, spaces included);
3. Recent photograph of the choir and conductor in jpg or tif format;
4. Declaration by the choir director, with the commitment to prepare all the collective pieces requested by the organization and to accept the regulation in all its parts.

All choirs will be given written confirmation of admission or exclusion to the Festival by and no later than 19 January 2020.

From 16 June 2019 on the Harmonia Gentium website: www.harmoniagentium.it - ​​www.festivalzelioli.it the compulsory music pieces will be published in PDF format.

1. REGULATION

1.1 Character of the Festival

The Festival is not competitive and therefore the judgments of merit (with relative score) expressed by the International Artistic Commission do not in any way determine a ranking among the participating choirs.

1.2 Admitted categories

Category-A: Children's and women's choirs. Maximum number of 30 members. For choirs with female voices, girls must be 19 years old or younger.

Category- B: Mixed voice choirs: - Boys and Men with a maximum of 40 members, of which at least 25 are boys. Boys (Sopranos and Alti): maximum age 16 years; Men (Tenors, Countertenors and Basses): maximum age 25 years. 5% of the choristers may exceed the indicated age by 2 years. The conductor and the organist are not counted in the number of choristers.

Girls and Men with up to 40 members, including at least 25 girls. Girls (Sopranos and Alti): maximum age 19 years; Men (Tenors, Countertenors and Basses): maximum age 25 years.

5% of the choristers may exceed the indicated age by 2 years. The conductor and the organist are not counted in the number of choristers.

1.3 The Artistic Commission

a) The International Artistic Commission is made up of 5 members from different nations, plus the Artistic Director of Harmonia Gentium, and a secretary.

b) The Artistic Commission attends the auditions scheduled for the Festival and draws up a short evaluation form aimed at improving the artistic level of the choir.

c) For the purpose of a concrete evaluation of the various interpretative aspects, the commission will formulate a judgment of merit which is expressed globally with a score from 0 to 100. The evaluation determines the attribution of the score-prize according to the following criteria: - 0 points - 59 4th Prize - Points 60 - 69 3rd Prize - Points 70 - 79 2nd Prize - Points 80 - 89 1st Prize - Points 90 - 97 1st Prize cum laude - Points 98 - 100 1st Prize summa cum laude The Commission's assessment will be carried out taking into account the following items:

to. vocal setting of the choir (with reference to the different sections and to the totality of the choir)

b. intonation;

c. rhythmic, dynamic and agogic correctness in the interpretation of the pieces;

d. technical-stylistic correctness of the interpreted pieces;

is. difficulty of the proposed repertoire (in order to avoid evaluation disparities between particularly expert choral groups and others made up of very young choristers, interpretative difficulty coefficients will be attributed to the various pieces performed);

f. presentation of the choral ensemble; -

At the end of the final Mass of the Festival, each choir will receive a diploma of participation and a commemorative plaque, with the form prepared by the International Artistic Commission containing comments on the performances and artistic suggestions.

1.4 Duties of choirs

Choirs have the obligation to:

prepare all the collective pieces that will be performed during the opening ceremony and during the Holy Mass at the end of the Festival; participate in collective rehearsals in the Basilica, and attend all the events of the Festival;

The choirs will also be able to hold independently organized concerts only if expressly authorized by Harmonia Gentium.

Failure to comply with these obligations may entail - at the sole discretion of the organizing committee - the suspension of free hospitality.

1.5 Accommodation and meals

PROPOSAL 1

Choristers with a maximum age of 17 (born after 30 June 2002) Free accommodation.

For meals, a flat rate contribution of € 60 per person is required. Hospitality with families or religious institutes starting from dinner on Tuesday 30 June until lunch on 5 July. Extra food or drinks must be paid for before departure.

Choristers over the age of 18 (born before 30 June 2002) and also under the age but exceeding the expected number (in any case no more than 5 people). Board and lodging paid by the choir. Full board accommodation in hotels or religious institutes with a conventional price of € 65 per day per person. Extra food or drinks must be paid for before departure.

PROPOSAL 2

If the choir wishes to be housed in a single accommodation facility, the relative cost will be borne by the choir itself.

Precisely:

• in the Hotel € 40 per day per person For meals a flat rate contribution of € 60 per person is required.

• in a religious institute, hostel or B&B, € 35 per day per person For meals, a flat rate contribution of € 60 per person is required.

Extra food or drinks must be paid for before departure. The costs of accommodation and meals (excluding drinks) for the Director, the Organist, n. 2 Heads of each choir and n. 2 Bus drivers, will be entirely paid by Harmonia Gentium.

1.6 Registration fee

The registration fee for the festival is € 400 (four hundred / 00) non-refundable, to be paid on the bank account of the Harmonia Gentium Association (which will be communicated with the letter of admission to the Festival). Admitted choirs are also required to pay a deposit of € 500 (five hundred) which will be returned (in cash) to the choirs at the end of the Festival.

Should the choir withdraw from the Festival for any reason, the deposit will not be refunded. By March 4, 2020, the admitted choirs must send the amount of the registration fee and the deposit to the Harmonia Gentium bank account. Failure to send the deposit within the established terms will result in exclusion from the Festival.

If, due to force majeure, the Festival cannot take place, the admission fee, the deposit and any sums paid for the stay and meals will be returned to the admitted choirs. Any compensation for the participating choirs is excluded.

1.7 Recording of Performances

Harmonia Gentium reserves the right to record audio / video of the pieces performed, pieces for which the Choirs, Conductors and Organists cannot request any compensation.

2. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE FESTIVAL

• Opening ceremony;

• Gala Concert in the Basilica of San Nicolò; in the presence of the public and the artistic commission.

• Audition of the choirs by the International Artistic Commission

• Compulsory collective rehearsals of the choirs for the preparation of the pieces for the closing solemn Holy Mass and the final ceremony of the Festival;

• Concerts by individual groups in the various Lombard locations

• European Folklore Event • Solemn Holy Mass for the closing of the Festival,

• Closing ceremony and delivery of diplomas

3. MUSICAL PROGRAM REQUIRED

3.1 Gala concert in the Basilica of Lecco (in the presence and of the artistic commission):

• 1 monodic piece taken from the liturgical repertoire (Gregorian, Ambrosian, Orthodox, etc.) of free choice. Maximum duration 3 ';

• 1 sacred a cappella polyphonic piece of free choice composed after 1970. Maximum duration 4 ';

• 1 sacred a cappella polyphonic piece of free choice composed after 1990. Maximum duration 4 ';

• 1 sacred piece with organ accompaniment of free choice and from any period. Maximum duration 4 '; 3.2 Choir auditions (Crypt Sanctuary of Our Lady of Victory):

• 1 sacred a cappella piece composed after 1990, by the author of the country of origin (also in the original language). Maximum duration 5 ';

• 1 sacred a cappella piece composed before 1990. Maximum duration 4 ';

• 1 profane piece with piano accompaniment, composed before 1990. Maximum duration 3 ';

• 1 profane a cappella piece of any period, composed before 1990. Maximum duration 4 ';

A digital piano will be made available; The pieces proposed in the Concerts in the Basilica cannot be repeated in the audition to be held in the Crypt of the Shrine of Our Lady of Victory.

During the auditions the pieces can be performed in the order preferred by the Choir Director. The order will be communicated to the Artistic Commission. The Commission has the right to request the performance of one of the pieces of the compulsory program for collective performances.

By 4 March 2020, the admitted choirs must send the PDF files of the scores of the pieces of their choice to the email address of Harmonia Gentium (info@harmoniagentium.it). Any changes to the repertoire declared in the admission form must be promptly communicated to the Festival Secretariat, and the PDF files of the replacement scores must be sent no later than 18 May 2020.

After this date, the pieces of free choice cannot be changed

3.6 European Folklore Event

For the European Folklore Show the choirs will have to present 2 popular songs from their country. Maximum overall duration 7 '.

3.7 Compulsory Collective Songs

The scores of the collective pieces for the closing Mass will be available on the Association's website www.harmoniagentium.it, in PDF format starting from June 15, 2019. By June 22, 2020, the admitted choirs must send to the address of the Harmonia Gentium Music Association, a CD or an MP3 file with the recording of the collective pieces for the closing Mass of the Festival.

Failure to send the registration will result in exclusion from the Festival.

3.8 Concerts in the various host locations

The choirs will have to prepare a program of sacred and folk music (lasting a maximum of about 50 ') for the concert to be held in the host location or other Lombard city in agreement with the welcoming committee. The program must be attached to the documentation sent by the choir.

4. EUROPEAN FOLKLORIST SHOW

The event will take place on Saturday 4 July 2020 and includes a parade through the streets of Lecco of the choirs, in the typical costumes of the countries of origin or in concert dress; at the end of the parade each choir will present two popular pieces from their country of origin for a maximum total duration of 7 '.

A piano will be made available; However, it is desirable that the pieces be accompanied by popular instruments characteristic of the countries of origin.

5. CLOSING CEREMONY

The final event of the Festival will take place on Sunday 5 July 2020, with the following program;

• 10.15 am. Meeting of all the choirs in the churchyard of the Basilica;

• 11.00 am. S. Solemn Mass, with execution of collective pieces. The community direction of the choirs will be entrusted to the artistic and musical director of Harmonia Gentium.

• At the end of the Holy Mass, the Closing Ceremony will take place with the delivery of certificates and participation plaques, as well as the delivery by the Choirs of gifts characteristic of the country of origin.

6. FINAL CLARIFICATIONS

The choirs will be divided into two rounds: Round A and Round B;

The draw for the rounds will be carried out by the Harmonia Gentium Committee on 25 May 2019 and will be communicated to the choirs in the following days.

BUS: For choirs arriving in Italy by plane, it is mandatory to book a bus for all the days of the festival through the secretariat of Harmonia Gentium. The indicative cost of the bus for the entire duration of the Festival (5 days) is approximately € 3,000 (three thousand / 00), and includes:

- Transfer to and from the airport;

- Transfers for rehearsals and concerts to and from the host locations;

- A tourist trip to a locality to be agreed.

Tourist trip: The costs and organization of free time, any trips and excursions, any other extra service in hotels and drinks in general will be borne by the choir.

Harmonia Gentium, will make an assistant available to each choir for communications with the secretariat and for all organizational problems relating to the events of the Festival.

Harmonia Gentium declines all responsibility for any accidents to persons or things that may occur during travel and during the stay in Lecco and the Lombard Provinces.
